Origins

Hal Jordan's life changed forever when he was chosen by a dying alien named Abin Sur to become his successor as Green Lantern. Abin Sur, mortally wounded after crash-landing on Earth, commanded his power ring to find someone with the ability to overcome great fear. The ring selected Hal Jordan, a fearless test pilot for Ferris Aircraft, and transported him to the crash site. There, Abin Sur bestowed the ring and power battery upon Hal, making him the newest member of the Green Lantern Corps. Hal was then summoned to the planet Oa, home of the Guardians of the Universe, ancient beings who created the Corps to enforce order across the cosmos.
