Origin
Monkey D. Luffy is a young man from Windmill Village in the East Blue. As a child, he accidentally ate the Gum-Gum Fruit (Gomu Gomu no Mi), a Paramecia-type Devil Fruit that turned his body into rubber. Inspired by the pirate Shanks, who saved his life and became his idol, Luffy set out to sea to gather a crew and pursue his dream of becoming King of the Pirates.

Rubber Body: The core of Luffy's combat ability stems from the Gum-Gum Fruit, granting his entire body rubber-like properties.
